First Apartment

I am living in my first home away from home.
So far, not too homey. I have purchased a few things to make it feel a little more comfortable. Such as a cute canvas flower piece that I put above our fireplace. And buying lamps definitely made things better in here because I was actually able to see when I walked inside. But now, I sit on the floor, next to a rug that sits in the middle of the empty living room next to an Ikea Poang chair bought off Craigslist and my TV that sits on top of my makeshift TV stand/cart-dolly. But one thing I absolutely adore: my pink and white vase from a thrift store at home that has fake yellow flowers in it from Wal-Mart. Sounds completely cheap (and it is), but besides the canvas flower (which I also got at a thrift store for $1.50), the vase is my favorite part of this home.

School will begin Monday morning. And I am serious about being serious in school this semester. Not like I haven't been trying, but I know for sure that I can try harder. And I want to do the best I can. And that requires effort. So here I am, making a point to make a very serious effort in school from now on.

Band has already begun. This last week was full of sun, sunscreen, brass, noise, music, awkward conversations, efforts of bonding and sousaphones, sousaphones, sousaphones!!! There are 17 (that's right, SEVENTEEN) tubas/sousas this year! That is seven more than last year. And for only knowing about half of them for a week, I think we all get along really well. Here's to another good season that I cannot wait for...

I miss all of you at home and I hope that Zaca fire isn't ruining your lungs. Poor Bakersfield. Valley Fever, 3rd worst air, Asthma, West Nile, Zaca Fire, good ol' heat...

Goodnight.
