Valentine's Day

(I'll admit- I found the following quote and reference on Wikipedia.)

For this was on seynt Volantynys day

Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.
Geoffrey Chaucer, Parlement of Foules, 1382.

Reading Chaucer is fun! Ha. Ha. Ha. No, really; it's difficult. But, it is exactly the type of language that tugs on my linguistic heart strings and shows the transitions languages go through.

That's not the point here, though, is it? I'm here to wish you a Happy Valentine's Day! To me, it's more like another Thanksgiving than a day of eating candies and receiving flowers. It's a day to send my love to all of you, my friends and family. It's a day to enjoy time with those around me. And, as I requested the day off work, it will be a day to spend time with my fiancé. So do yourself a favor-- give someone an unexpected hug, make your own cards, pick your own flowers and bake your loved ones some dark chocolate brownies.

love love
